TRIPLE C CHARTERS ON ADDICTIVE FISHING TV

One of the highlights of my career was appearing on the Addictive Fishing Television show on Discovery Channel and Fox Sports Sun. Capt Blair Wiggins, the host the popular Florida fishing series, caught tarpon and snook on this episode. I was also featured in another episode catching kingfish off of St. Petersburg.

We’ll it certainly didn’t take very long to get things heated up! With love bugs in the air and quickly rising temperatures, we know it won’t be long before the humidity and heat of summer sets in. It also means the fishing is about as good as it gets! This is one of my favorite times of the year. Not just because the fishing is excellent, but because there are so many species to target. First off, the snook bite has been outstanding! There are also some really big females moving around. We’ve hooked a few and landed a couple but when a snook gets over 36” it’s a different animal and when she’s hooked near structure, on light tackle, a little luck is needed. We’ve also been chasing tarpon with a number of anglers flying fish, mostly juveniles the last few weeks but that will change soon. It's ALIVE!!

As we put the dogs days of summer behind us and start looking forward to fall, the fishing here in Tampa Bay has come alive! The amount of bait in the bay is bordering on ridiculous. Huge bait pods can be seen in open water often being bombarded by birds from above while being ravaged by the fish from below. It's usually spanish mackerel, ladyfish, bluefish and sharks. When we target one of these schools the action can be fast and furious with the baits often getting slammed as soon as they hit the water. As we move closer to shore, the snook bite continues strong with plenty of fish along the mangroves. Although it's been steady bite all summer, the dip in water temps has really helped keep fish feeding through the midday heat. CORONA VIRUS FISHING REPORT

It certainly has been an interesting couple of months with this pandemic we are all suffering through. While I hope you are all safe and enduring the covid without too much hardship, here at Triple C Charters we miss seeing all of the smiling faces that the fishing this time of year always brings. I'm very sorry for those anglers whose trips had to be cancelled, I hope that we may be able to reschedule for another time. Even though we may not be running the amount of trips we usually do this time of year, fortunately the county officials have left our boat ramps open which means we've still been able to get out on the water and keep up on what's happening. That said we have a full on spring bite going on right now with plenty of bait moving into the bay and onto the flats. Right now is my absolute favorite time of year with just about everything that swims available to us. That means snook, redfish and trout on the flats,...

ANYONE SEEN OLD MAN WINTER?

As I sit here writing this, we have had 11 consecutive days of over 80 degrees, and aside from another blip of a "front" moving through this week, it seems like we will continue with a warm, record breaking February. With the water temperature hovering in the low to mid 70s, the fishing has been spectacular, particularly for the snook who I'm sure don't know if it's late fall or early spring. All they know is bait is still plentiful in the bay and they are eating to their hearts content. Although they did just announce an extension of "catch and release only" for snook, redfish and trout, we have been catching some very nice spotted seatrout over the deeper grass along with some over slot (28") redfish that are roaming around. We've been doing well with soft plastics from DOA or Zmann for these guys. The snook, meanwhile, have mostly come on sardines or swimbaits from Mirrolure with my favori...
